Ferrari has had bottom aero tunnels for extra downforce since the 360 Modena. Some Ferraris from before that look like they had it but really it was just to cover up the naughty bits, as you said.

As a person who has never driven anything with more than 220hp, I really want to get the chance to sit in one of these, a Veyron, or late model Zonda, on an empty airstrip, and make the first thing I do in it be a full throttle run using all the ground available. That would be chill.
